Vet given clearance to name trainer for Val's Prince
A circuit court in Broward County, Florida, confirmed an earlier ruling that allows Dr. Dennis Milne to appoint a trainer for multiple-graded stakes winner Val's Prince on Friday.
Val's Prince has been on Milne's New Jersey farm since November, when co-owners Robin Martin and Steve Weiner went to court trying to determine ownership of the horse. Milne, a veterinarian who performed surgery on the gelding in 1997, will likely appoint a trainer for the gelding within the next few days.
Attorney Brad Beilly, who represents Martin, said Milne will probably seek out Hall of Fame trainer H. Allen Jerkens to see if he has any interest in the now eight-year-old gelding. According to Beilly, Milne treated Kelly Kip for Jerkens, and the two men have a longtime relationship. If Jerkens accepts Milne's offer, Val's Prince could be shipped next week to Jerkens barn at Belmont Park.—Dave Joseph
