Training to resume at Arlington on Thursday

Training was scheduled to begin at 5:45 a.m. CDT on Thursday at Arlington International Racecourse, the first activity by horses on the Chicago-area racetrack in more than two years.

No racing has been conducted at Arlington since it closed on October 10, 1997. Owner Richard Duchossios went ahead with plans to re-open the $200-million facility last year when legislation including tax breaks was passed to help Arlington compete with nearby riverboat casinos.

Arlington's 2000 meeting is scheduled to run 100 dates, from May 14 through September 30.
