Nakatani pondering English sojourn

Top American jockey Corey Nakatani, who is scheduled to ride champion Anees in Saturday's $1-million Santa Anita Derby (G1), is still considering riding in England later this year, Racing Post reports.

The 29-year-old rider has said he may follow the lead of ex-jockey Gary Stevens in riding at the upcoming Royal Ascot meet. The report said Nakatani consulted with trainers Clive Brittain and John Gosden during last month's Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) meeting in Dubai about the possibility.

Nakatani rode Brittain-trained Cool Jazz to victory in the 1995 Diadem Stakes (Eng-G3) at Ascot.

"I have heard all about Royal Ascot and would love to check it out," Nakatani said. "I have spoke to John Gosden and Clive Brittain and told them I would be available for rides. I know there are a lot of great horses over in Britain and it would be terrific to ride at what everybody says is such a great meeting."
