The sale of Allen and Madeleine Paulson's Brookside Farms South near Ocala to veteran horseman Roy Lerman has been finalized and the farm has been renamed Lamholm South.

Sale of the 420-acre facility, which was listed on the market last year for $4.75-million, was completed on March 31 for a price of $4.1-million plus a lease agreement. Included in the purchase are ten barns with a total of 220 stalls, a one-mile training track, and four residences.

The sale also includes a lease agreement that will allow the Paulsons to continue to board some horses on the farm. Approximately 40 horses currently on the property are owned by the Paulsons, a spokesperson for the farm said.

Lerman, a 59-year-old attorney and licensed trainer who owns Lamholm Farm near Middleburg, Virginia, said his short-term goal is to operate the farm as a full-scale public training facility. The current staff and management team is also expected to remain with the new ownership, Lerman said.

"It's such a beautiful facility and it's as close to a turn-key situation as you could find in a Thoroughbred farm," said Lerman, who bred 1996 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Alphabet Soup through his Southeast Associates. "There's a mile track and the barns are spread throughout the 420 acres. It's really the way a racetrack could be. You could quadruple the number of stalls and not affect the farm at all."

Either through Southeast Associations or his Lamholm Farm, Lerman bred or co-bred stakes winners Blazing Hot, Lava, Don't Talk Back, and Toy Won. He trains primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The recent sale comes on the heels of the Paulsons' sale of their Brookside Farm near Versailles, Kentucky, to owner Gerald Ford of Diamond A Racing for an undisclosed price last week.—Tom Law
