Leaping Plum runs third in his sixth Coca-Cola Sprint
Leaping Plum, who won Fonner Park's Coca-Cola Sprint Handicap in1995, '96, '97, and '98, and finished second in '99, now has a six-pack of Cokes on his black-type list. The gelding finished third in the 2000 edition of that race on Saturday.
Leaping Plum, a nine-year-old gelding by Lightning Leap out of the Dr. Blum mare Velvet Plum, is trained by Joe Amoss for owners Clyde Woods and Paul Miskimins. The speedball has set or equaled four track records during his career. He broke his own 5 ½-furlong record of 1:03.58 at Prairie Meadows in 1997 when he covered the distance in 1:02.50. Leaping Plum also set a record at Fonner Park for 4 ½ furlongs in :44.20 in 1996 and at Lincoln State Fair for 4 ½ furlongs in :50 flat.
In 49 starts he has amassed $303,971 for 24 wins, four seconds, and nine thirds.
