Red Bullet drills half for Wood Memorial

Gotham Stakes (G3) winner Red Bullet lived up to his name on Friday when he turned in the fastest half-mile of the day on the Belmont Park training track.

The undefeated son of Unbridled went the distance in :46 as he continues to prepare for his next scheduled start in the Wood Memorial Stakes (G2) on April 15.

Red Bullet won the Gotham last time out by a half-length for his third consecutive victory. Trained by Joe Orseno for Stronach Stables, Red Bullet has earned $163,800.

Other possibles for the Wood Memorial include the D. Wayne Lukas-trained Exchange Rate, winner of the Risen Star Stakes; San Felipe Stakes (G2) winner Fusaichi Pegasus, Gotham runner-up Aptitude, Promontory Gold, and Wheelaway. Polish Miner and Tahkodha Hills have been mentioned as possibilities for the 1 1/8-mile Wood.

The New York Racing Association will award a $150,000 bonus for the owner and $100,000 to the trainer of a horse who wins both the Wood and the Kentucky Derby (G1).
