Ogden gets out of food, theme park business
Ogden Corp. will sell its concession business and venue-management units for $236-million to Aramark Corp., the third-largest food service provider in the world. Just last month, Ogden sold its amusement and water parks to Alfa Alfa Holdings SA for $148-million.
The New York-based Ogden has divested itself of these interests, which it considers nonessential, to concentrate on its power plant business.
Ogden was the former owner of Fairmount Park in Collinsville, Illinois, which it sold to Bill Stiritz in February for $15.5-million. Stiritz is chairman of Ralston Purina Co., which describes itself as the world's largest producer of dog and cat food. Formerly Odgen also owned Waterford (now Mountaineer) Park in Chester, West Virginia, Wheeling Downs harness track in Wheeling, West Virginia, Suffolk Downs in Boston, Massachusetts, and Scarborough Downs harness track in Maine.
