Zoffany takes aim at second Grade 1 win in National

After securing a half-length victory in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (Ire-G1), talented juvenile Zoffany will return to the Curragh for a try at the Boylesports.com Vincent O’ Brien National Stakes (Ire-G1) on Saturday.
A winner of five of six starts for owners Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Susan Magnier, Zoffany is undefeated in two starts at the National distance of seven furlongs. The Dansili (GB) colt won the Korean Racing Authority Tyros Stakes (Ire-G3) on July 22 at Leopardstown and the Golden Fleese Stakes there on July 1, both at seven furlongs.
Zoffany is one of four entrants for trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has won the National in seven of the past 14 years, including in 2008 with Mastercraftsman (Ire).
Awaiting Zoffany will be Godolphin Racing’s Janood, who has started his career with a pair of victories. The Medician colt enters off a narrow victory in the seven-furlong Matalan Washington Singer Stakes on August 14 at Newbury Racecourse.

For those who have yet to see this Ballydoyle, Aidan O'Brien trained 2yr.old colt. Be patient. I'd say he's going to come calling for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf in November at Churchill Downs. Zoffany is very physically impressive. He looks as if he's been chiseled out of stone or something. 5 wins in 6 lifetime starts. Already a G1 winner as a 2yr.old. Zoffany's only career loss was at Royal-Ascot in the G2 Coventry Stakes to another top 2yr.old, Strong Suit. A race that Zoffany had traffic issues in. And was squeezed out between the eventual winner, Strong Suit, and another runner in the field. Zoffany finished 6th in the Coventry Stakes. But has since squared the ledger with Strong Suit. Coming from behind to split horses late, and blow by Strong Suit at the wire to win the G1 Phoenix Stakes. Zoffany goes for his second career G1 win at the Curragh on Sunday in the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes. I think he's the class of the field, and would be very surprised to see Zoffany lose this race. I also think he's going to be a big favorite, and could very likely win the 2010 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf as well.
