Champion turf female Goldikova (Ire) will pursue a tenth career Group or Grade 1 victory on Sunday in the $429,480 Prix Rothschild (Fr-G1) at Deauville.
Goldikova collected her first Group 1 win two years ago in the Prix Rothschild. In between the first and her ninth win at the highest level in the Queen Anne Stakes (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot on June 15, Goldikova prevailed in the Prix Rothschild again last year and in back-to-back editions of the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita Park.
Seven opponents were entered to take on the five-year-old Anabaa mare.
Music Show has the top recent form of the challengers. She won the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes (Eng-G1) on July 7 at Newmarket and finished third, beaten a neck, in the Etihad Airways Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1) on May 23 for trainer Mick Channon and owner Jaber Abdullah.
Goldikova scored in last year’s Falmouth.
Elusive Wave, a French classic winner in 2009 for American owner Martin Schwartz, will try Goldikova again after finishing second by 1½ lengths last year in the 1,600-meter (7.95-furlong) Prix Rothschild. The Elusive City filly facede males in her two most recent starts as a four-year-old, finishing fifth in the Prix du Muguet (Fr-G2) on May 1 at Saint-Cloud and fourth in the Prix du Chemin de Fer du Nord (Fr-G3) on June 13 at Chantilly.
Goldikova’s owners-breeders, Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, also entered Only Green (Ire) and Evaporation.
