City Banker wins Miguel A. Martinez de Hoz

Multiple Group 1 winner City Banker rolled to a comfortable victory on Saturday in the Gran Premio Miguel A. Martinez de Hoz (Arg-G1), the first Group 1 race of the 2010 Argentine racing season at Hipodromo San Isidro in Buenos Aires.

Benefitting from a perfect trip under Adrian Gianetti, the Lode colt put away pacesetters Fuego e Hierro and Brave Halo approaching the final furlong to prevail by one length over Brazilian champion Jeune-Turc. Brave Halo held on gamely for third in the nine-horse field.

Winner of the 2008 Gran Premio Jockey Club (Arg-G1), the second leg of Argentina's Triple Crown, and last season’s Gran Premio Estrellas Classic (Arg-G1), the classy chestnut covered 2,000 meters (9.94 furlongs) on turf rated as soft in 2:04.18 to record his third Group 1 victory and improve his record to five wins from 11 career starts for owner Stud El Gusy.

"He was pulling me out of the saddle, he is such a great racehorse," said Gianetti.

City Banker entered the race off a runner-up effort in the listed Clasico Botafogo at the same distance on January 9.

Bred in Argentina by Haras Santa Maria de Araras, City Banker is out of the winning Ibero (Arg) mare Cirandinha.
