Typhoon Tracy dominated the competition on Saturday at Caulfield in the $348,655 C. F. Orr Stakes (Aus-G1).
Australian owners and trainers hoping her effortless 1 3/4-length score would kick off an international campaign, however, must instead face the prospect of challenging the talented four-year-old Red Ransom mare again. Typhoon Tracy’s trainer Peter Moody said he has no plans to ship her out of Australia following her third straight victory and third Group 1 win in the last 11 months.
"There are something like a dozen Group 1s in her backyard here, in Sydney and Brisbane, that she could be aimed at, so it's a tall order to take her away," Moody told Melbourne’s The Age. "There are some great races in Sydney, where she's proven herself before, and then the owners are from Queensland so we could also take her up to Brisbane as there are some races there that would be right up her alley."
Typhoon Tracy covered 1,400 meters (6.96 furlongs) in 1:24.04 on turf rated as good to improve to eight wins in 11 starts. She is out of two-time South African champion Tracy’s Element (Aus), by Last Tycoon (Ire).
Owned by Hutchins Thoroughbreds Syndicate, Typhoon Tracy entered off a 4 3/4-length romp in the 1,600-meter (7.95-furlong) Empire Rose Myer Classic (Aus-G1) on October 31 at Flemington.
“She hadn't won a Group 1 weight-for-age race in open [company], so it's nice to put that one behind us,'' Moody said.
Heart Of Dreams edged Sirmione by a nose for second.
Both Viewed and Shocking cut back significantly in distance in their first starts since the 3,200-meter (15.90-furlong) Emirates Melbourne Cup (Aus-G1). Viewed, the 2008 Melbourne Cup winner, finished sixth in the nine-horse field and 2009 Melbourne Cup victor Shocking was eighth.
Earlier on the card, highly regarded Group 1 winner Denman improved to eight wins from ten starts with an easy 3 1/4-length win in a listed stakes for three-year-olds.
