Shalanaya to skip Filly and Mare Turf

Posted: Friday, October 23, 2009 9:36 AM

Qatar Prix de l’Opera (Fr-G1) winner Shalanaya will bypass the Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) and instead target the $2.1-million Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup (Jpn-G1) on November 15 at Kyoto.

Shalanaya, who is not nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program, would be eligible for a $947,000 bonus for winning both the Prix de l’Opera and Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup. Beverly D. Stakes (G1) winner Dynaforce and 2008 champion turf female Forever Together also are nominated to the 2,200-meter (10.94-furlong) race.

Trainer Mikel Delzangles told Racing Post that jockey Christophe Soumillon would ride Shalanaya in Japan for her owner and breeder, the Aga Khan.
