Timeo prevails in Grande Criterium in Brazil

Group 1 winner Timeo posted a come-from-behind victory in the Grande Premio Linneo de Paula Machado (Brz-G1) (Grande Criterium) on Monday at Hipodromo La Gavea in Rio de Janeiro.

Ridden by Marcelo Cardoso, the First American colt entered the stretch full of run, overtook the leaders, and prevailed by a neck over hard-charging Hong Kong.

Moryba, a Group 2-winning juvenile and classic-placed son of Hard Buck (Brz), finished third in the 13-horse field.

Trained by Ronaldo Marins Lima, Timeo covered 2,000 meters (9.94 furlongs) in 2:00.33 on turf rated as yielding.

Winner at two of the Grande Premio J. Adhemar de Almeida Prado—Taca de Prata (Brz-G1) at La Gavea on June 28, Timeo registered his second Group 1 victory and third triumph from six career starts. He entered off a fourth-place finish in the Grande Premio Ipiranga (Brz-G1), the opening leg of Sao Paulo’s Quadruple Crown series for three-year-old males on the turf on September 7.

Bred by Haras Sao Jose Da Serra and owned by Stud Yatasto, Timeo is out of the Atticus mare In the Sand.
