Goecochea lands Brazil’s Grande Premio Bento Goncalves

Three-year-old Goecochea edged two-time defending winner Starman by a head to win the Grande Premio Bento Goncalves (Brz-G1), the Rio Grande do Sul Jockey Club's most important race of the year for Brazil's best stayers on dirt, on Sunday at Hipodromo Cristal.

The lone three-year-old in the field, Goecochea denied favorite Starman the opportunity to win the race for a third consecutive year. Group 3 winner My Majesty was third.

Trained by Herminio Machado, Goecochea covered 2,400 meters (11.93 furlongs) in 2:31.00 to capture his second stakes victory and third overall from four career starts.

Bred and owned by Alessandro Arcangelli’s Beverly Hills Stud, the Ibero (Arg) colt is out of the Argentine mare Imagin, by Interprete.
