Champion Life of Victory wins Pellegrini prep race

Argentina’s 2008 Horse of the Year Life of Victory demonstrated his readiness for a repeat bid in next month's Gran Premio Internacional Carlos Pellegrini (Arg-G1) with a victory in the Gran Premio Copa de Oro -Copa Alfredo Lalor (Arg-G1) for the second time on Sunday at San Isidro.
The seven-year-old Incurable Optimist horse, who also won the 2007 edition of the race, closed from the middle of the course to collar pacemaker Eternal Fire and win by three-quarters of a length.
Trained by Carlos Daniel Etchechoury, Life of Victory covered 2,400 meters (11.93 furlongs) race in 2:25.61 on turf rated as soft.
The victory was the second group stakes triumph for Life of Victory since returning from a three-month rest following a sixth-place finish in the Estrellas Classic (Arg-G1) in June. He entered off a two-length victory in the Clasico Progreso (Arg-G3) at San Isidro on October 9.
Life of Victory earned his third Group 1 victory, ninth stakes win, and twelfth career victory from 44 starts for owner Stud El Gusy.
Bred by Haras Orilla del Monte, Life of Victory is out of the Hidden Prize mare La Gran Portada. He is a half brother to Argentine Group 1 winner Leading the Way.
