Sinndar, Linngari to shuttle to Brazil

Posted: Sunday, July 12, 2009 5:18 PM

by Michael Burns

The Aga Khan’s French-based stallions Sinndar and Linngari will shuttle to Brazil for the first time to stand the Southern Hemisphere season in Sao Paulo under a lease agreement.

Eduardo Guimaraes of Belair Stud in Brazil handled Linngari's lease and will manage stud plans for both stallions in that nation.

“Sinndar’s shuttling was only possible due to the generosity of [His Highness]  the Prince Aga Khan, whose father, the late Prince Aly Khan, had quite a few friends in Brazil,” Guimaraes said.

Sinndar was leased by the Sao Paulo Breeders Association and will stand at Silvio Crespi’s Haras Calunga in Sao Paulo, which was inspected last month by Georges Rimaud, manager of Haras de Bonneval in Le Mesnil Mauger, France.

Linngari, who stood his first season alongside Sinndar at Haras de Bonneval, will stand at Francisco’s Giobbi’s Haras San Francesco in Sao Paulo.

Sinndar won seven of eight career starts, including victories in the 2000 Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-G1,) Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-G1), and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barriere (Fr-G1), and earned $2,571,884.

Sire of multiple Group 1 winner Youmzain and Irish classic winner Shawanda (Ire) from his first six crops of racing age in Europe, Sinndar is a 12-year-old by Grand Lodge out of Irish highweight and stakes winner Sinntara, by Lashkari (GB).

Linngari is a seven-year-old by Indian Ridge out of the winning Kahyasi mare Lidakiya. A world traveler, he won 11 of 29 career starts, including the 2007 Premio Vittorio di Capua (Ity-G1), ‘08 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen (Ger-G1), several group races in Dubai, and finished second or third in Group 1 races in England, France, and Hong Kong. He retired with a career bankroll of $2,795,578.
