Kalath Wells wins Seleccion de Potrancas

Maiden winner Kalath Wells scored an upset win in a field of five three-year-old fillies in the Gran Premio Seleccion de Potrancas (Arg-G1) at Hipodromo La Plata on Sunday.

By 1994 Criterium de Saint-Cloud (Fr-G1) winner Poliglote (GB), Kalath Wells was sent to the front by jockey Edwin Talaverano. The Haras Firmamento homebred led at every point of call to defeat La Plata’s Polla de Potrancas (Arg-G2) winner La Charmante by five lengths.

Loadora finished third, another eight lengths back.

Trained by Miguel Garcia, Kalath Wells completed the 2,000-meter (9.94-furlong) race in 2:03.48 to record her first stakes victory.

She entered off a 12-length maiden victory at 1,600 meters (7.95 furlongs) at La Plata on August 13 after failing to win in her first five starts at San Isidro.

Bred and owned by pharmaceutical magnate Juan Carlos Bago's Haras Firmamento, Kalath Wells is out Group 1-placed winner Kalath, by Kaljerry, and is a half sister to Group 2 winner Kalath Champ.
