Aga Khan retains jockey Lemaire for 2010 season

The Aga Khan Studs has retained Christophe Lemaire as rider of first call in France in 2010 following the recent dissolution of the partnership between the Aga Khan and longtime stable jockey Christophe Soumillon.

The Aga Khan and Soumillon agreed to end their partnership at the conclusion of the 2009 racing season. Soumillon was the regular rider of the Aga Khan’s unbeaten European 2008 Horse of the Year Zarkava

Lemaire recently signed a one-year contract with the Niarchos family, who will have priority on his services in 2010. When Lemaire is not riding for them, he will ride the Aga Khan’s French-trained horses.

“The Aga Khan Studs are looking forward to starting an association with Christophe Lemaire next year and believe this arrangement will work for them and the Niarchos family,” the Aga Khan Studs said.

Lemaire rides for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget and scored wins at the highest level for him in France this season with Le Havre in the Prix du Jockey Club (Fr-G1) (French Derby) and Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Fr-G1) (French Two Thousand Guineas), Stacelita in the Prix de Diane (Fr-G1) (French Oaks) and Montjeu Coolmore Prix Saint Alary (Fr-G1), and Elusive Wave in the Poule d’Essai de Pouliches (Fr-G1) (French One Thousand Guineas).
