Nakatani to ride Cannonball in Golden Jubilee
Jockey Corey Nakatani will replace John Velazquez on multiple stakes winner Cannonball in the Golden Jubilee Stakes (Eng-G1) on Saturday at Royal Ascot.
Velazquez is returning to New York after Friday’s card to ride at Belmont Park on Saturday. He guided Cannonball to a sixth-place finish in the King’s Stand Stakes (Eng-G1) on Tuesday at Royal Ascot for trainer Wesley Ward for owners-breeders Ken and Sarah Ramsey.
Cannonball will not have to deal with King’s Stand winner Scenic Blast, who will instead await the Darley July Cup (Eng-G1) on July 10 at Newmarket.
South African champion J J the Jet Plane and Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint runner-up Diabolical are also entered in the field of 15 for the six-furlong Golden Jubilee.
Nakatani also is scheduled to ride maiden winner Honor in Peace for Ward and the Ramseys in the seven-furlong Chesham Stakes for two-year-olds on Saturday.
