Godolphin buys English classic-placed Delegator
Godolphin has purchased English classic-placed Delegator for an undisclosed price.
The three-year-old Dansili (GB) colt finished second, a neck behind Mastercraftsman, in the St James’s Palace Stakes (Eng-G1) on June 16 at Royal Ascot. He also finished second to eventual Investec Epsom Derby (Eng-G1) winner Sea The Stars in the Stanjames.com Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) on May 2 at Newmarket.
Delegator posted a win and a second-place finish in three starts last year as a two-year-old for trainer Brian Meehan and owner-breeder Poilin Good. In his 2009 debut on April 16 at Newmarket, the bay colt scored a sparkling last-to-first, 2¾-length triumph in the Banshahousestables.com Craven Stakes (Eng-G3).
Delegator will be transferred from Meehan to trainer Saeed bin Suroor’s Newmarket stable.
“Delegator is top class and we are very excited to have acquired him,” Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said. “There are no plans at the moment, but we will look forward to seeing him racing later in the season and next year as well.”
