Sorrentino takes Grande Premio Jockey Club de Sao Paulo

Sorrentino closed gamely to secure his third Group 1 victory in the Grande Premio Jockey Club de Sao Paulo (Brz-G1), the second leg of Sao Paulo's Quadruple Crown series for three-year-old colts on turf, on Saturday at Hipodromo Cidade Jardim.

Sorrentino entered off an impressive win in the Grande Premio Ipiranga (Brz-G1) on September 6.

Under regular pilot Jose Aparecido, the Wild Event colt closed furiously from the center of the track to gain command with one furlong remaining en route to a three-length victory. Pacesetter Nuestro Hermano held on to finish second, four lengths clear of third-place finisher 'Ngulo Certo.

With the victory, Sorrentino moved halfway toward sweeping the Sao Paulo Jockey Club’s Quadruple Crown series for three-year-old colts. The series continues with the Grande Premio Derby Paulista (Brz-G1) on November 8 and ends with the Grande Premio Consagracao (Brz-G1) on December 20.

Trained at Hipodromo Taruma in Curitiba by Luiz Roberto Feltran, Sorrentino completed 2,000 meters (9.94 furlongs) in 2:02.03 on turf rated as soft to remain unbeaten at three and extend his winning streak to four. He earned his third straight Group 1 victory and fifth career win in seven starts for Parana-based owners Jose Cid Campelo Filho and Carlos Roberto Fernandes.

Bred by Haras Santa Maria de Araras, Sorrentino is out of multiple group stakes winner Bukebele, by Punk.
