Scarlet, Montignac end Chilean season on high note

Group 3 winner Scarlet closed a productive two-year-old season with a come-from-behind victory in the Clasico Arturo Lyon Peña (Chi-G1) on Sunday at Club Hipico de Santiago.

The Dushyantor filly closed with a rush on the extreme outside to collar Pretty Cat in the final strides and prevail by a neck.

Conditioned by leading trainer Patricio Baeza, Scarlet covered 1,600 meters (7.95 furlongs) under Hector Berrios in 1:35.12 on turf rated as soft for her third win in five career starts.

Winner of the Clasico Cotejo de Potrancas (Chi-G3) in April, Scarlet entered off a fourth-place finish in the Clasico Julio Subercaseaux Browne (Chi-G3) on May 30.

Campaigned by Joaquin Seideman's Stud Don Theo, Scarlet was bred by Haras Matancilla. She is out of multiple stakes producer Biala, by The Great Shark.

Saturday at Hipodromo Chile, two-year-old Montignac earned his first stakes win with a 3 ¼-length victory in the Clasico Tanteo de Potrillos (Chi-G1).

Trained by Alfredo Bagu, The Dance Brightly colt completed 1,500 meters (7.46 furlongs) in 1:29.18 on a track rated as fast. He entered off a third-place finish in the Victor Matetic Fernandez (Chi-G3) on May 31.

Bred by Jorge Cardemuil’s Haras Carioca, Montignac is out of Group 3 winner L’Eclipse, by Smooth Performance.
