Adlerflug dominates in Deutschland Preis at Dusseldorf

Gestut Schlenderhan’s homebred Adlerflug emphatically regained his winning form Sunday with a seven-length romp in the $245,520 German Tote Deutschland Preis (Ger-G1) at Dusseldorf.
The four-year-old chestnut In the Wings (GB) colt soundly trounced Group 1 winner Quijano (Ger), turning the tables on the familiar foe who had edged him by a neck in the Grosser Preis von Baden (Ger-G1) last September. Adlerflug had not visited a winner’s enclosure since his resounding victory in his start prior that, the BMW Deutsches Derby (Ger-G1) on July 1, 2007 at Hamburg.
With Swedish jockey Fredrik Johansson at the reins on Sunday, Adlerflug thoroughly dominated his five opponents while plowing through the heavy turf to finish the 2,400-meter (11.93-furlong) race in 2:37.58.
Quijano finished six lengths in front of third-place finisher It’s Gino.
Trained by Jens Hirschberger, Adlerflug entered off a third-place finish to Egerton in the Idee Hansa-Preis (Ger-G2) on June 29. He improved his career record to four wins in nine career starts.
Bred in Germany, Adlerflug is out of the Last Tycoon (Ire) mare Aiyana.
