Fritzy Boy rallied from off the pace to secure his first career group stakes victory with a one-length win in the $174,925 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes (NZ-G1) on Saturday at Hastings.

The four-year-old Brilliance gelding broke slowly under Noel Harris, steadily advanced to midpack, and launched his winning bid after he was angled out with about 600 meters remaining in the 1,400-meter (6.96-furlong) race.

Fritzy Boy accelerated when roused to reel in pacesetter Insouciant and held off fast-closing Bulginbaah to prevail in 1:24.16 on turf rated as slow.

Group stakes winner Bulginbaah finished one length clear of Group 2 winner Prince Kaapstad. Insouciant faded to fourth.

Fritzy Boy is trained by Alby MacGregor, who co-owns the gelding with breeder J. M. Jury.

The third-place finisher in the Mercedes New Zealand Derby (NZ-G1), Fritzy Boy improved to eight wins in 13 career starts. He is out of the Cache of Gold mare Fritzy Girl
