Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Raven’s Pass and Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1) winner Zarkava are among five horses nominated for European Horse of the Year honors during the Cartier Racing Awards.
The awards, established in 1991 to recognize excellence in racing, will be presented at an invitation-only ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Monday in London.
The eight equine awards are determined by points earned in pattern races (40%) combined with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists (40%) plus votes from readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph (20%).
Also nominated for Horse of the Year are Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up and four-time 2008 Group 1 winner Henrythenavigator; Duke of Marmalade, who won five Group 1 races this season; and New Approach, a three-time Group 1 winner in 2008.
