Man of Iron to make debut at Curragh Friday
Man of Iron, a Giant’s Causeway colt out of 2007 Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour, will make his career debut on Friday in the first race at the Curragh.
The two-year-old chestnut is a half brother to consecutive Belmont Stakes (G1) winners Jazil (2006), by Seeking the Gold, and Rags to Riches (‘07), by A.P. Indy.
Man of Iron, who was bred in Kentucky by Shell Bloodstock, is owned by Derrick Smith and trained by Aidan O’Brien. He will be ridden by Colm O’Donoghue when he meets 14 opponents in the seven-furlong turf test.
Better Than Honour is also the dam of undefeated Peter Pan Stakes (G2) winner Casino Drive, by Mineshaft, who was scratched from this year’s edition of the Belmont with a bruised hoof.
The 12-year-old Deputy Minister mare also has a yearling by Giant’s Causeway. She will not be bred in 2008 after losing her A.P. Indy foal late in term.
