Codigo de Honor remains undefeated with Peruvian Guineas win

Argentine-bred Codigo de Honor kept his unblemished record intact Sunday with a front-running victory in the Clasico Polla de Potrillos (Per-G1) (Peruvian Two Thousand Guineas), the first leg of the Peruvian Quadruple Crown, at Hipodromo de Monterrico in Lima.

Sent off as the favorite under Argentine-based rider Pablo Falero, the Honour and Glory colt galloped comfortably on the lead and drew off in the stretch to win by 2 ¾ lengths.

"He is such a good traveler and made everything so easy. He is a great colt," Falero said.

Tomcito, a previously unbeaten Street Cry (Ire) colt, closed ground late to finish second, 4 ½-lengths clear of Chalaquito. Argentine-bred Benedict and three-time stakes winner Granizo finished unplaced in the 14-horse field.

Trained by Juan Suarez, Codigo de Honor completed one-mile on dirt in 1:39.80 to register his first Group 1 victory and third win in as many starts for owner Stud Harem.

Codigo de Honor entered the classic off two towering victories by a combined margin of 33 1/4-lengths.

Originally named Mineroclasico and bred by Haras La Pomme, Codigo de Honor is the fourth winning foal out of the Mining mare Miner Classic.
