Date set for 2008 Dubai World Cup

The 2008 edition of the world’s most lucrative Thoroughbred race, the $6-million Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1), will be run on March 29.

The Dubai World Cup will be the highlight of 49 race meetings this season at the four racing clubs of the United Arab Emirates; the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, the Dubai Racing Club, Jebel Ali Racecourse, and the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club.

The first 21 race days will be held at Nad al Sheba racecourse beginning on November 8. The ten opening races make up the Winter Racing Challenge. The Dubai International Racing Carnival is scheduled to commence on January 17 with the first round of the Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al Maktoum Challenge.

The ten 2008 DIRC meetings will be held throughout the spring, ending with the UAE Oaks on March 6.

Jebel Ali will host the first of its ten meetings on November 23, while Abu Dhabi will stage 15 meetings, beginning on November 11.
