Final Destination wins New Zealand classic

Final Destination, a daughter of O'Reilly sent off at odds of 60-to-1, unleashed a powerful finishing burst to win the first major New Zealand race of the season in Saturday's New Zealand One Thousand Guineas (NZ-G1) for three-year-old fillies at Riccarton racecourse. Final Destination was always handily position during the one-mile event and took the lead from Flying Babe in the stretch to win by three lengths. Final time was 1:34.16. Blackrock College finished second and Moon Magic was third.

Out of Logical Lady, by Sound Reasons, Final Destination was bred by Peter Setchell of Millfield Stud, who also bred and raced her grandam Society Bay, a group stakes winner in Australia.

Final Destination, trained by Wayne Hills, gave her sire O'Reilly his first Group One winner.—Delamere Usher
