Jockey Callan hospitalized after dramatic fall

Jockey Neil Callan, who just returned to action in late November after suffering a collarbone fracture this fall at Southwell, was taken to Royal Surrey Hospital in Redhill, England, on Wednesday after being knocked unconscious in a fall at Lingfield Park. Around the midpoint of a six-furlong maiden stakes race, Callan's mount May Princess clipped the heels of Brown Holly, throwing Callan to the track. The 23-year-old rider lay motionless for some time before being taken to the hospital by ambulance for precautionary x-rays.

"He regained consciousness before he left the course," track doctor Peter Firth told Racing Post. "He is lucid and has no other injuries we were able to locate."

Callan had not ridden a winner since his return from the first injury.
