Tomizawa fined by Australian stewards
New South Wales Thoroughbred Racing Board stewards hit Japanese apprentice jockey Nozi Tomizawa with a $257 ($500 Australian) fine for giving misleading evidence at an inquiry after the Christmas Stakes at Rosehill racecourse on December 15.
After Tomizawa was asked by stewards how he came in almost one pound light after his fifth-place finish aboard Grampians, he told them is was in the bathroom before the race.
Two days after the race a Rosehill track maintenance worker found a lead bag, apparently from Tomizawa's boot. At an inquiry on Wednesday, Tomizawa admitted that he knew he lost the lead from his booth on Saturday but did not know where.—Delamere Usher
