Australia's Cooper to ride in Japan
Bernadette Cooper, who has ridden more than 500 winners, confirmed on Wednesday that she has received an offer to ride in Japan in 2002 under a three month contract.
"It's a really wonderful opportunity," Cooper said. "I am now waiting on a clearance from the Japanese Racing Authority and hope to be arriving in Japan in February."
The 27-year-old Cooper began her riding career in Queensland, but recently transferred to Sydney. A natural lightweight, Cooper rides at 112 pounds.—Delamere Usher
