Australian man fined for transmitting odds off course
An unidentified 27-year-old man was convicted and fined approximately $2,590 by the Melbourne Magistrates Court for allegedly transmitting prices off course earlier this year Caulfield racecourse. Racing Victoria stewards reported that the man was transmitting betting odds off-course on August 4 using a mobile phone, which are restricted at racetracks by members of the public. The mobile phone and other apparatus used by the man were forfeited.
Licensed bookmakers operate in designated areas and must show their odds, but it is an offense for anyone to signal or otherwise transmit those odds to any persons on or off course.—Delamere Usher
