Victorian Country Racing Council elects new board members

Delegates from Victoria's country racing clubs elected two new board members and re-elected four on Monday during the Victorian Country Racing Council's annual general meeting.

Mildura Racing Club's Ross Lanyon was selected for the council for the first time, as was Chas Armytage of Hamilton Racing Club. Re-elected council members are Brian Dougherty, Michael Caveny, Chinka Steel, and Bill Knights.

"During the year, country racing has set several milestones," said Chairman George Corones. "Prize money has increased nearly 3% to ($16.3-million) and returns to owners were up more than 3% to ($21.5-million). We have more starters, greater race-day profitability, increased admissions revenue, and greater turnover. These are all indicators which show that country racing in Victoria continues to get better and better."
