2012 FRESHMAN SIRE CONTEST RULES
The deadline to enter the Freshman Sire Contest is 11:59 p.m. ET on May 31, 2012.
All entries must be made on THOROUGHBRED TIMES’ website (www.thoroughbredtimes.com).
Each entry must contain the entrant’s complete name, mailing address, phone number,
e-mail address, and principal involvement in racing. All entrants’ names and addresses
will be provided to THOROUGHBRED TIMES and Markel.
The entry form will include a field for organization/team/affiliation that will
be displayed with all the annual and monthly results if it is supplied. This field
is optional, and the purpose to include it is to allow friends to sort the results
by that field to see how their friends are faring in the contest.
All entrants must be at least 18 years of age.
Only one entry per person will be accepted (if more than one is submitted, the earliest
one will be used). THOROUGHBRED TIMES has the right to disqualify any entry.
No fax or regular post office mail entries will be accepted. No entries will be
taken verbally.
Eligible stallions for this contest are those whose names appear on the provided
table and whose names appear in the drop-down boxes to be used for selections. No
other freshman sire(s) of 2012 can be used for the purpose of this contest, and
not all freshman sires of 2012 have been included in this contest.
All entries, once submitted, for the annual contest are final and cannot be changed
after the 11:59 p.m. EDT deadline on May 31, 2012.
The entry whose “Stallion Barn” has the highest combined progeny earnings on the
final THOROUGHBRED TIMES Freshman Sire List of 2012 for the six stallions selected
will be the overall winner. The object of the contest
is to pick the stallions (two from each of the three groups) that the person thinks
will have the highest total combined progeny earnings in the year-end freshman sire
standings. The monthly contest, starting in May, has the same criteria.
In the event of a tie for first-, second-, or third-place in the overall contest,
the prize winner will be determined by earliest date a contestant’s “Stallion Barn”
was finalized and submitted. All decisions of the judges are final.
The winning entry will be announced in January 2013, with $200 from the contest
sponsors awarded to the winner. The second-place winner will receive $100, and the
third-place winner will receive $50. At the end of the contest, a donation of $1,000
will be made to the charity of choice of the farm that stands the leading North
American freshman sire of 2012.
Each month from May through December, there will be a $25 cash prize awarded to
the contestant whose “Stallion Barn” has earned the highest total progeny earnings
for that month. The contest’s presenters will make a $100 donation to the charity
of choice of the monthly winner.
The “Stallion Barn” entered at the start of the contest will be eligible for both
the overall contest and the May contest. The May contest runs from May 16-May 31
and stallion progeny earnings earned from May 1-May 31 will be included in that
player’s Stallion Barn total for both the year-end and monthly contests.
Players will have the opportunity to change
their “Stallion Barn” on or after the first day of each month to participate in
the following month’s contest and will be effective only for the monthly contest.
The “Stallion Barn” for the annual contest cannot be changed and is fixed at the
cutoff on May 31. Changes for the monthly contest must be made by 11:59 p.m. ET
on the final day of each month to be eligible for the following month’s contest.
For example, a player can change their “Stallion Barn” on June 15 and once those
changes are finalized, that “Stallion Barn” will be entered for that player for
the June contest. If that same player changes their “Stallion Barn” on June 29, the
latter barn will be used for the contest for Junly.
If no changes are made to a “Stallion Barn,” the “Stallion Barn” entered either
at the start of the contest or at the most recent change period will be entered
in the monthly contest. For example, a player changes their “Stallion Barn” on July
21 but not again for the rest of the year. That “Stallion Barn” will be eligible
for the August contest, and all subsequent monthly contests through December.
In the event of a tie in the monthly contest, the winner will be determined by the
earliest date a contestant’s “Stallion Barn” was finalized and submitted. All decisions
of the judges are final.
The “Stallion Barn” that is entered at the close of entries at 11:59 p.m. EDT on
May 31 is the only “Stallion Barn” eligible for the overall contest.
By entering the contest, the winner hereby grants permission to THOROUGHBRED TIMES
and Markel to use his or her name in promotional materials in announcing the results
of the contest.
Employees of and/or regular contributors to THOROUGHBRED TIMES and/or Markel may
participate in the contest but are not eligible for any prizes.
Competition ends with racing completed on December 31, 2012, or as determined by
the judges.
