Twine first winner for Straight Line

Posted: Saturday, November 12, 2011 5:57 PM

Twine seized the early lead and cruised to a 7 ¼-length win in the third race at Hawthorne Race Course on Saturday to become the first winner for Illinois-based freshman sire Straight Line.

The two-year-old gelding covered six furlongs on a track rated as fast in 1:12.92 as the 11-to-10 favorite under Francisco Giles in his fifth start for trainer John Wainwright and owner Sharon Morgan. He is one of five winners from as many starters out of stakes-placed winner Twill, by Binalong.

Straight Line, a nine-year-old by Boundary out of the Strawberry Road (Aus) mare Zanti, stands for $1,500 at Fairberry Farm in Waterloo, Illinois. He has 12 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Straight Line won ten of 26 starts, including the 2004 Iroquois Stakes (G3) and 2005 Ack Ack Handicap (G3), and earned $489,026 in four seasons.
