Texas-based stallion Seneca Jones dies at 21

Posted: Thursday, August 04, 2011 2:33 PM

Seneca Jones, a well-bred stallion who became a farm favorite in his many years at Asmussen Horse Center in Laredo, Texas, died at age 21 on Monday.

Seneca Jones stood at the Asmussen Horse Center from 1994 through this season. He was buried in his paddock. Keith Asmussen said the apparent heart attack victim will be missed.

“He was an important member of our family,” Asmussen said. “We are heartbroken about his passing.”

Seneca Jones covered 22 mares this season and stood for $1,500.

By Alydar and out of champion three-year-old filly Tiffany Lass, Seneca Jones boasts 98 winners from 144 starters in 15 crops of racing age through Wednesday. His nine stakes winners include Seneca Summer, who earned $523,148 racing from 2003 through 2010.

Seneca Jones was bred in Kentucky by Aaron Jones.
