Ocala-based freshman sire High Cotton was represented by his first winner on Thursday when Tarpy’s Goal captured the second race at Churchill Downs.
The colt out of the Exbourne mare Terre des Hommes (Ire) won the five-furlong maiden special weight race by 2 ¾ lengths, covering the distance in :58.88 under jockey Kent Desormeaux for trainer Dale Romans and owner Mike Tarp. Terre des Hommes is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner and sire Running Stag.

An eight-year-old by Dixie Union out of the A.P. Indy mare Happy Tune, High Cotton posted four wins, three seconds, and two thirds in 17 career starts and earned $462,574 in three seasons. He won three stakes in 2006, including the Northern Dancer Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G3).
