Thoroughbred Times invites its readers to suggest a name for the forthcoming foal by champion Bernardini out of Horse of the Year and three-time champion Zenyatta.

The person who submits the best name as chosen by the Thoroughbred Times editorial staff will receive a Zenyatta prize pack that includes a hard copy of the Zenyatta souvenir magazine as well as several back issues that feature her on the cover.

To enter, submit your suggestion in the comment section, and be sure to include a correct e-mail address. For those who like to divine names using pedigree, here is the hypothetical foal's five-cross pedigree courtesy The Jockey Club.

The contest ends at 4 p.m. EST Monday, and Thoroughbred Times will announce the winner on its website that week.

I thought of names for this foal months ago and before ever knowing what the sex of the foal was going to be, which I had thought it could be a filly. The funny part about this is I had imagined the foal (a filly is what I had imagined at the time) to have a large white star-like shape on her forehead except it was more like a slightly crooked diamond. I also thought the foal would have one white sock on its right hind hoof, although I see Zenyatta’s colt actually has a tiny sock (coronet) on his front left hoof. Well, despite this name being for that ideal ‘filly’ I had in mind, the name was meant to be universal for either filly or colt. The name I thought Zenyatta’s first foal should be is Love Train based on the song “Love Train” by O’Jays since the foal seriously brings people together, maybe not to physically join hands, but to watch him, adore him, and be inspired by him just like his mother.

I think we should think outside the box with Zenyatta foal's name.
