Darley stallion Singspiel (Ire), the 2003 leading United Arab Emirates sire, has experienced fertility problems early in the breeding season.
The 18-year-old by In the Wings (GB) stands for $22,719 (15,000 British pounds) at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket.
“Singspiel has experienced fertility problems since the commencement of the 2010 breeding season that are thought to be linked to a brief illness he suffered in January. Since that time, Singspiel has enjoyed good health,” Darley said in a statement. “It is hoped that Singspiel’s fall in fertility is temporary, so he remains covering a reduced book of mares and will continue to be assessed as the breeding season progresses.”
Singspiel is the sire of 421 winners from 596 starters that have bankrolled more than $56.9-million through Friday. He is the sire of 75 stakes winners, including 34 group or graded stakes winners and two champions.
Moon Ballad (Ire) emulated his sire when he won the 2003 Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) en route to being crowned United Arab Emirates Horse of the Year. Singspiel won the Dubai World Cup in 1997.
Singspiel also is the sire of 2007 champion turf female Lahudood (GB), ’09 Nakheel Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-G1) winner Eastern Anthem, ’06 Prix de Diane Hermes (Fr-G1) (French Oaks) winner Confidential Lady, ’08 E. P. Taylor Stakes (Can-G1) winner Folk Opera (Ire), and multiple Group 1 winner Dar Re Mi (GB).
A half brother to Grade 2 winner and prominent U.S. sire Rahy, Singspiel is out of 1980 Canadian Horse of the Year Glorious Song, by Halo.
Singspiel won nine of 20 starts and earned $5,952,825 in four racing seasons. Other notable victories include the Japan Cup (Jpn-G1) and Canadian International Stakes (Can-G1) in 1996 and the Juddmonte International Stakes (Eng-G1) and Vodafone Coronation Cup Stakes (Eng-G1) in ’97.
