Desert Code, the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner, will commence his stud career this season at Harris Farms in Coalinga, California.
The six-year-old E Dubai horse out of stakes winner Chatta Code, by Lost Code, will stand for $2,000.
A half brother to two stakes winners, Desert Code registered four stakes victories on grass and another on Cushion Track in the 2007 Affirmed Handicap (G3) at Hollywood Park. He prevailed by a half-length at odds of 36.50-to-1 in the 2008 Turf Sprint at Santa Anita Park.
“I am very pleased to get this outstanding sire prospect,” farm owner John Harris said. “He combines a top race record, solid pedigree, and excellent conformation, and has ‘the look.’ I plan to breed many of my best mares to him. It’s unfortunate that he is getting a late start for this season, but he’ll catch up, and I hope breeders can stop by Harris Farms and see him soon.”
Bred in Kentucky by ClassicStar, Desert Code won seven of 24 career starts and earned $1,088,939 for owner Tarabilla Farms Inc. and trainer David Hofmans.
