Aly Weeping strikes for freshman sire Weeping Willow

Posted: Tuesday, March 09, 2010 6:22 PM

Aly Weeping controlled the pace and scooted to a clear victory in the fifth race on Tuesday at Sunland Park to become the first career winner for New Mexico-based freshman sire Weeping Willow.

Trained, owned, and bred by Hermenegildo Aldavaz, Aly Weeping opened a clear early advantage in his career debut and never was seriously challenged under Ricardo Jaime. A half brother to stakes winner Waymore’s Blues, he covered 4 1/2 furlongs in :53.55 on a track rated as fast.

A nine-year-old by Horse Chestnut (SAf), Weeping Willow won one of six starts. Out of the winning Alydar mare Alyaffirm, he has four two-year-olds in his first crop.
