A. P. Song controlled the pace as the 6-to-5 favorite in the third race at Philadelphia Park on Friday and powered to a dominant six-length romp to become the first career winner for freshman sire A. P. Warrior.
Trained by Frank Petrozzo for owner Elliot Mavorah, the bay two-year-old filly completed the 4 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race in :52.46 under John Bisono. Bred in Kentucky by James Bates, A. P. Song is the first starter out of the Songandaprayer mare Songandaflash.
A seven-year-old by A. P. Indy out of stakes winner Warrior Queen, by Quiet American, A. P. Warrior stood the 2010 season for an advertised fee of $10,000 at Stonewall Farm Stallions in Versailles, Kentucky. Richard and Audrey Haisfield’s Stonewall Farm will cease operations in Kentucky and move five stallions, including A. P. Warrior, to Stonewall Farm Ocala next year. A. P. Warrior has 31 two-year-olds in his first crop.
A. P. Warrior won four of 13 career starts, including the 2006 San Felipe Stakes (G2) and La Jolla Handicap (G2), and earned $548,595 in two seasons. He finished third in the 2006 Santa Anita Derby (G1) prior to an 18th-place finish in that year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1).
