Millennium Farms, Heiligbrodt buy Closing Argument

Posted: Monday, August 23, 2010 3:05 PM

A partnership including Ro Parra’s Millennium Farms and Bill Heiligbrodt has purchased Closing Argument for stud duty in 2011 and beyond.

Plans for the 2011 breeding season were not announced. The Successful Appeal horse began his stud career in Florida in 2006 and moved to John G. Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Lexington in ‘08. He stood at Hill ‘N’ Dale for an advertised stud fee of $5,000 in 2010.

Closing Argument, second to Giacomo in the 2005 Kentucky Derby (G1), ranked eighth on the second crop sire list with $2,473,988 in progeny earnings through Sunday. He has sired three stakes winners in his first two crops, the oldest of which are three-year-olds of 2010.

Closing Argument is the sire of 2009 My Dear Stakes winner Midst and the undefeated allowance winner Capital Account, who is being pointed to the 2010 King’s Bishop Stakes (G1) by Racing Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

“Closing Argument is off to a good start at stud and is just the kind of young stallion we are looking for,” Parra said. “We are pleased to join Bill in this new partnership. The future for Closing Argument looks very bright, with 102 two-year-olds this year and 86 two-year-olds next year from his first Kentucky foal crop.”

“We have always bred mares to Closing Argument, have several of his progeny in our racing stable, and we have had good success with them,” said Bill Heiligbrodt. “We bought into the horse for his stud career, and now we have increased our ownership stake and look forward to his bright future.  We will continue to send mares to him.”

Closing Argument broke his maiden at Saratoga as a two-year-old and also won the NATC Futurity at Delaware Park. He won the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at three before running third in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland Race Course and second in the Kentucky Derby. Closing Argument won three of nine career starts and earned $986,984.

Closing Argument is out of the Mr. Greeley mare Mrs. Greeley.

louisiana's breeding program would benefit from a horse of this caliber. Also I was impressed with Millenium Moon Lake farm and the staff this year.
Hope Closing Argument ends up in Louisiana.

I bred my mare to closing argument in 2010 from Louisiana good buy. Hope he can join the Louisiana circuit. I would be happy to breed all my mares to him. Half our and yankee gentlemen look out there would be a new boy in town.
