Zayat Stables’ Grade 1-placed winner Maimonides has been retired and will enter stud at Vinery in Summerfield, Florida.
Owner Ahmed Zayat purchased the Vindication colt for $4.6-million at the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale. He won his debut race, a 5½-furlong maiden special weight race at Saratoga Race Course, by 11½ lengths in August 2007.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Maimonides finished third in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) but did not race again when it was discovered he had bucked shins.
Out of the Silver Deputy mare Silvery Swan, Maimonides is a half brother Grade 1 winners and sires Roman Ruler and El Corredor.
“This horse has perfect conformation, an impeccable pedigree, and a world of raw talent,” Zayat said. “We wanted to give him as much time as he needed, but he has just had bad luck. He is a horse with unfulfilled potential, but I hope that he will be able to prove himself in the breeding shed like his siblings, El Corredor and Roman Ruler. He is the best horse I have ever owned. Period.”
No stud fee has been set at this time.
