Grade 2 winner Sir Shackleton is moving from Kentucky to Dana Point Farm in Lenhartsville, Pennsylvania, for the 2010 season.
The eight-year-old Miswaki horse stood at Castleton Lyons in Lexington from 2007 through ’09. He stood the 2009 season for an advertised fee of $5,000, and his first foals are yearlings.
“We are delighted that we have been able to arrange for Sir Shackleton to stand at Dana Point in 2010 as we were very impressed with the good work that [Dana Point owner Gayle Gerth] and her general manager Maria Vorhauer’s team accomplished with Wiseman’s Ferry there this season,” said Shane Ryan, president of Castleton Lyons. “Dana Point has certainly developed a very professional reputation in the Pennsylvania stallion market in a very short period of time.
“Sir Shackleton’s first two yearlings to be consigned at public auction sold for $39,000 and $25,000 at the recent Ocala sale and both Castleton Lyons and [co-owner Tracy Farmer] are eagerly awaiting the first runners next year for this very good-looking stallion, who set a seven-furlong track record in the Grade 2 Richter Scale Breeders’ Cup Sprint Championship Handicap (G2) at Gulfstream. We believe that the Pennsylvania Breeders Program offers breeders there a tremendous opportunity to gain reward for the big commitment they make to the bloodstock industry.”
Sir Shackleton won seven of 20 starts and earned $1,051,500. His 2010 stud fee will be $2,500. Dana Point will give special consideration to Pennsylvania breeders and owners who book multiple mares.
