Yourhythmic first winner for Lyracist

Posted: Saturday, September 05, 2009 4:32 PM

Yourhythmic pressed the pace in his second career start and shook free to a 2 1/4-length win in the second race on Saturday at Delaware Park to become the first career winner for Pennsylvania-based sire Lyracist.

Trained and bred by Lynn Ashby, who conditions the bay colt for owner Mark Ashby, Yourhythmic completed the six-furlong maiden claiming race in 1:14.24 on a track rated as fast under Jose Caraballo. He is the first starter out of the Allen’s Prospect mare Miss Goodie.

A 13-year-old by Sultry Song out of the unraced Theatrical (Ire) mare Watercolors, a half sister to Grade 1 winner and sire Lost Mountain, Lyracist stood the 2009 breeding season for $3,500 at Mouse House Farm in Nottingham, Pennsylvania. He has three two-year-olds in his first crop.

A Grade 3-placed three-time stakes winner, Lyracist amassed 12 wins, 11 runner-up finishes, and 15 third-place finishes in 69 starts and amassed $589,956 in purse earnings in seven racing seasons. He won the Kelso Handicap in 2000 and ’04 and Delaware Park and finished second in the ’02 Baltimore Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G3) at Pimlico Race Course.
