Rubys Academy scores first win for Academy

Posted: Saturday, September 05, 2009 1:42 PM

Rubys Academy made a late rush under jockey Jake Olesiak to score a neck victory in a 4½-furlong maiden special weight race at the North Dakota Horse Park on Friday to pick up the first career victory for freshman sire Academy.

The dark bay or brown colt covered the distance in :55.23 in his career debut for trainer Dave Bernhardt. He is the first starter out of the winning Gregorian Chant mare Bonton’s Recall.

Academy, an eight-year-old by Honour and Glory who stands for Bernhardt in Wishek, North Dakota, won once and finished second twice from five career starts over two seasons. Out of the Rubiano mare Ruby Wedding, he has eight year-olds in his first crop.
