Posted: Monday, October 26, 2009 7:53 PM

Venus Avenue outfinished Girl Con by a neck to win the ninth race on Monday at Zia Park and become the first career winner for multiple Grade 2-placed winner Aeneas.

Trained by Hermenegildo Aldavaz for owners Brian Goodwin and Chris Seed, the dark bay or brown filly completed the 5 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race in 1:08 on a track rated as fast. Bred in New Mexico by Connie Snyder and Richard Snyder, Venus Avenue is out of the winning High Brite mare Olympic Mettle and is a half sister to stakes-placed winner Dome Shadows.

A ten-year-old by Capote out of the winning Gone West mare Gone to Venus, Aeneas will stand the 2010 season for $2,500 at Cedar Creek Ranch in Grenville, New Mexico. A half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Saudi Poetry, Aeneas is from the female family of Horse of the Year and sire Arts and Letters and two-time champion Silverbulletday. He has 16 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Aeneas won three of 23 career starts and earned $434,485 in three racing seasons. He placed six times in stakes, including five times in graded races. Aeneas finished second in 2003 in the Washington Park Handicap (G2) and Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) and third in the Clark Handicap (G2).
