by Michael Burns

Longtime California-based sire Memo (Chi) has been relocated to Teresa Solari’s Haras Mocito Guapo in his native Chile.

The 22-year-old by Mocito Guapo out of Chardona, by Chairman Walker, stood the 2009 Northern Hemisphere season at Ridgeley Farm in Hemet, California.

Memo began his stallion career in 1995 at Ridgeley Farm and stood there for 15 consecutive years. He stood in Chile in 1995 and again in 2001.

Memo is the sire of 2001 Chilean champion miler Memo Guapo and eight other graded or group stakes winners from 12 crops of racing age. Other top offspring include Grade 1 winner Bordonaro and 2002 Godolphin Mile (UAE-G2) winner and sire Grey Memo.

A champion two and three-year-old colt in Chile, Memo captured the 1993 San Bernardino Handicap (G2) at Santa Anita Park, the ’94 Commonwealth Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2), and ’94 Triple Bend Handicap (G3). Overall, Memo won 13 of 34 career starts and earned $813,784.
